Aggressive patience (and a salty first brisket) 🫣

Hello Reader,

News of the Week

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

I smoked my first brisket last week.

From 11:45 to 19:45 (8hrs start to finish)

Failed it… and fuckin loved it.

Here’s what happened:

  • Temp regulation: I ran it too hot. Impatient heat = tough meat.
  • Seasoning: I salted it the night before, it went soggy, then I re-seasoned pre-cook… hello way too salty.
  • Process: Prep → set-up → tend the fire. It forced me to slow down, pay attention, and keep showing up.

Was it perfect? Not even close.
Was it useful? Completely. Now I have a baseline to improve from.

And it reminded me of the kind of patience we actually need as busy parents:

Patience isn’t passive

It’s not sitting around “waiting for motivation.”
It’s doing the right thing longer than anyone else will.

  • Building discipline when others get bored.
  • Showing up when it looks “pointless.”
  • Holding the line when everyone else breaks.

Most people don’t fail because they can’t.
They fail because they quit right before things start to change.

In brisket terms: they crank the heat, rush the cook, and ruin the result.
In fitness: they sprint week 1, miss two days, and scrap the plan.

The brisket-to-fitness playbook (low & slow)

  • Set the temp (Intensity): 10–25 min sessions you can repeat. Not hero workouts.
  • Season simply (Inputs): Protein at each meal, water, steps. Don’t overcomplicate.
  • Tend the fire (Consistency): Daily touch. Even 10 minutes counts.
  • Let it rest (Recovery): Sleep and breathwork so the “juices” actually stay.
  • Slice with intention (Tracking): One metric: sessions completed. Collect wins.

When the dust clears, the one who kept moving is the one who wins.

Hello Reader, I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. Let me know what you think of this newsletter please? News of the Week This week I was busy AF!!! Last Monday, after a full day on site, I didn’t want to workout because I quite literally was “too busy” I got home later than normal, and instead of cracking open a beer and slouching on the couch, I got moving with my boys instead… After that session I asked myself a question: Why has “being busy" become some sort of bragging right? It should embarrass us...
