Hello Reader, I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. Let me know what you think of this newsletter please? News of the Week This week, my mom and dad celebrated 39 years of marriage. ❤️ 39 years of love. Laughter. Living. And, knowing life... Probably a fair few moments where they’ve driven each other absolutely fuckin crazy. 😂 But seriously. When I think about their marriage, what stands out to me isn’t that they’ve had an easy life. It’s that they’ve stuck together through some really difficult seasons. Especially financially. Growing up, we didn’t have much. My parents couldn’t always give me and my siblings everything we wanted. But they made sure we had what we needed. ...And there’s a difference... One I appreciate a hell of a lot more now that I’m a dad myself. Because when you’re a kid, you notice the things you don’t have. When you become a parent... You start to understand what it might have taken to give you the things you did. These days, when I need perspective on being a better husband or dad, I often think about my parents. Their commitment. The way they’ve stayed together when life got hard. The simple gestures that make someone feel loved. The fact that building a family isn’t always about grand moments. Sometimes it’s about showing up for each other on a completely ordinary Tuesday. For 39 years. That’s something I want to learn from. But here’s the thing... I probably wouldn’t go to my parents for financial advice. And that’s OK. It doesn’t diminish what they’ve taught me. It doesn’t mean I love or respect them any less. It just means I understand that different people have different lessons to offer. I think we get this wrong sometimes. We assume that because we love someone... Or respect them... Or they’ve been in our lives forever... We should take their advice on everything. But advice is worth looking at through a simple question: Has this person built something in the area I’m asking them about? If I want to learn about commitment in marriage? I’ll look at my parents. If I want to improve my finances? I’ll seek out people with knowledge and experience in that area. If I want to become a better Surveyor? I’ll learn from people who’ve done the work and understand the challenges. And if I want to become a healthier, more present dad? I’ll pay attention to people who are living that out. Not because anyone has a perfect life. But because the example matters. And this is where I see so many busy parents get stuck with their health. They desperately want to lose the weight. Keep it off. Have more energy. Feel confident again. Be active with their kids. But the advice coming at them is EVERYWHERE. A mate who swears by the latest diet. Someone online promising a transformation in 30 days. A relative who means well but insists that getting fit with kids is impossible. A random reel telling them to cut out another food group. Fuck me. No wonder people feel overwhelmed. 😂 And the answer isn’t to find someone who looks impressive and blindly copy everything they do. It’s to find guidance that fits the life you actually have. Someone who understands the early mornings. The work pressure. The school runs. The interrupted sleep. The fact that you can’t just disappear to the gym for two hours every day. Someone who can help you build a way of living you can actually keep living. That’s what I’m grateful to be working on with the parents who trust me to coach them. Not just losing weight. Building the habits and capacity to keep it off while still being present for their families. Because a result you can only maintain by neglecting the rest of your life? That’s not the result we’re chasing. Fitness is the foundation. The life you get to live on top of it is the point. So here’s something worth thinking about this week: Who are you learning from? And more importantly... What are you learning from them? You don’t need one person to be your blueprint for everything. Take the lessons worth keeping. Seek better guidance where you need it. And keep building a life that reflects what matters most to you. Mom and Dad... Thank you. For giving us what we needed, even when you couldn’t give us everything we wanted. For showing me that love is more than a feeling. That commitment matters when things get hard. And that some of the most beautiful parts of family life are built through seemingly simple gestures, repeated over time. Happy 39th wedding anniversary. ❤️ I’m still learning from you. And I hope Nadine and I get to keep building our own story with the same kind of commitment. Brick by brick.
