Hello Reader, I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. βLet me know what you think of this newsletter please? News of the Week This week was probably one of the most stressful weeks of my professional career. I've been a surveyor for 16 years. I've worked on roads. Structures. Airports. Bus lanes. But I'd never built a bridge before... Until now. And this week came my first girder installation... From conversations with other surveyors and colleagues in my network, I knew this wasn't a simple operation. Then add the local media... Senior stakeholders watching... A massive piece of infrastructure being installed... And me. Nervous AF. Scared AF. Trying to look like I had my shit together π There were things I didn't know... Things I had to work through. Decisions that mattered. Pressure was fuckn HIGH. And somewhere in the middle of it all, I realised something: I had been training for this day for years. Just not in the way you'd think. Years ago, I was the overweight, unfit dad hiding his belly behind oversized shirts. Then I started doing hard things. One workout. One run. One better decision. One promise kept. Then another. And another. I became fitter... More disciplined... More resilient... But those weren't just physical adaptations. I was building character. Grit. Patience. Confidence. The ability to stay calm when things get uncomfortable. And that followed me outside the gym. Into my marriage. Into fatherhood. Into coaching. Into my career. And eventually... Onto a bridge site with a fuckin girder being installed and a whole lot of people watching. π That's what we sometimes miss about fitness. You think you're training your body. You're not. You're training your response to hard things. And eventually life gives you somewhere else to use it. Because life isn't supposed to be easy. Nobody promised that. The question is: Which hard are you willing to choose? Training is hard. So is living in a body that limits you. Eating intentionally is hard. So is having no energy for your kids. Pursuing the life you actually want is hard. So is wondering what would've happened if you'd tried. Discipline is hard. So are the consequences of having none. Everything carries a price. The difference is... One kind of hard builds you. The other slowly takes from you. And maybe that's why we should voluntarily do hard things. Not because suffering deserves some fucking medal. But because you don't know what life is preparing you for. That workout you nearly skipped. That uncomfortable conversation. That promise you kept when nobody was watching. That day you wanted to quit but didn't. Those reps are building someone. And one day... You might find yourself standing in a moment you've never experienced before... Nervous AF. Unsure. Under pressure. And realise: I've never done this before. But I've built the person who can handle it. Choose your hard. Do the reps. Build the person. Because you never know when life is going to ask them to step forward. β Ryan P.S. You don't always know what today's hard thing is preparing you for. Do the rep anyway. β Recipe of the Week PESTO WHITE FISH EN PAPILLOTE Serves 2 2x 6 oz. (170g) white fish filets of choice (e.g. cod) 1 tbsp. olive oil salt to taste 1β2 onion, sliced 2 tbsp. pesto 8 cherry tomatoes, halved 2 slices lemon What you need to do Preheat the oven to 385Β°F (200Β°C). Prepare 2 large pieces of parchment paper, big enough to hold the fish and fold over. Rub the fish filets with olive oil, and season with salt. Layer the sliced onion in the center of each piece of parchment paper, then place the fish filets on top. Brush the fish with pesto and then top with the cherry tomatoes, finally topping with the sliced lemon. Fold the parchment paper over the filet and pinch the edges to seal the parcel tight. Place the parcels on a baking sheet, in the oven, and bake for 15 minutes. Once ready, remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Open the parchment paper carefully to release the hot steam, taking care not to burn yourself. Question of the Week Where in your life are you guided more by fear than faith? Hello Reader, I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. Let me know what you think of this newsletter please? News of the Week This week reminded me that the greatest investment you can make isn't with your money. It's with your time. Work has been demanding lately, My construction project has ramped TF up. Nadine's workload has been crazy too. By the end of the day, we're both tired. The easy option would've been to crash on the couch, scroll our phones, and promise ourselves we'd do better tomorrow....
