Hello Reader, I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. βLet me know what you think of this newsletter please? News of the Week Today is Father's Day in Australia... And whenever this day comes around, I think about the moment my life changed forever. 24 September 2018. I'd had a busy day at work. Got home. Went to unlock the front door... And for some fuckin reason, I just couldn't get the key to work. π Nadine heard me struggling from inside. She got out of bed to come help me... And her water broke. Seven hours later, just after 1am... I became a dad. Scared... Excited... Fearful... Faithful... And completely unaware of just how much this little human was about to change me. If you asked me what it's like being a dad... I'd tell you it's the best fuckin feeling in the world. Without question, one of my greatest sources of pride and joy. I'd tell you I'd do absolutely anything for my two boys. But if you asked me on a deeper level? I'd give you a very different answer... I'd tell you I wasn't prepared for how much becoming parents would test our marriage. I'd tell you I've lost count of the times I've wondered whether I'm completely fucking this up. I'd tell you becoming a dad lit a fire inside me that I still struggle to put into words. I'd tell you the hardest part about loving these boys this deeply... Is knowing I can't always protect them from this crazy world. I'd tell you watching them reach another milestone is one of the greatest feelings imaginable... And somehow... A tiny heartbreak at exactly the same time. Because every milestone means they're growing. And every time they're growing... They're needing Dad just a little differently. I'd tell you the weight of wanting to be a good father never really disappears... Every decision. Every yes. Every no. Every late night. Every early morning. Every sacrifice. There's always that little voice: "Am I doing this right?" I don't know if that ever goes away. Maybe it's not supposed to. There's a quote you see online all the time: "I'd die for my kids." And I get it. I'd probably say the same. But the older these boys get... The more I think there's a harder commitment. I'd rather LIVE intentionally for them. Stay healthy for them. Stay active for them. Be present with them. Look after my marriage for them. Work on myself for them. Put the fuckin phone down for them. Run. Ride. Play. Coach their soccer teams. Listen when they tell me stories that make absolutely no sense. π Be there. Not perfectly. But intentionally. Because dying for someone is one heroic moment. Living for them is thousands of ordinary ones. It's what you do on the random Tuesday when you're exhausted. It's taking care of your health when nobody's applauding. It's putting the phone away when you'd rather scroll. It's keeping promises. It's apologising when you get it wrong. It's choosing your family again... And again... And again. And maybe that's where we parents get caught. We think there's going to be a better time. When work settles down. When the kids get older. When finances improve. When life isn't quite so chaotic. Then we'll get healthy. Then we'll be more present. Then we'll do the things we've been meaning to do. But perfect conditions aren't coming. And our kids aren't pausing their childhood while we wait. That's the part that gets me... Carter is almost eight. It feels like yesterday I was standing beside that hospital bed... Scared AF... Looking at this tiny human and realising: I'm somebody's Dad now. Then came Cassius. And suddenly there were two little boys watching me. Learning from me. Building their idea of what being a man, husband and father looks like... Partly through the example I give them. That's a responsibility I don't take lightly. So this Father's Day... I'm not promising my boys perfection. I'll still lose my patience. I'll still make mistakes. I'll still question whether I'm doing enough. But I can promise them this: I'll keep showing up. I'll keep working on myself. I'll keep looking after the body God gave me. I'll keep fighting to be present. I'll keep building myself into the father they deserve. Because I don't just want to say: "I'd die for my kids." I want my life to show them: "I chose to LIVE for you." And God willing... I'll get to do that for a very long time. Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there doing the work. Keep showing up. Your lil empire is watching. This Spring, weβre bringing back one of our favourite Elevation Empire programs. 4 weeks. β Recipe of the Week CHICKEN TIKKA ALFREDO Serves 6 For the chicken: 11β2 lbs. (680g) boneless skinless chicken thighs 5 oz. (140g) Greek yogurt 3 cloves garlic, minced 1 tbsp. ginger, minced 11β2 tsp. garam masala 1β2 tsp. ground cumin 1β2 tsp. ground coriander 1β2 tsp. salt 1β4 tsp. cayenne pepper cooking spray For the sauce & pasta: 3 tbsp. ghee 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped 5 cloves garlic, minced 2 tbsp. fresh ginger, minced 1-2 serrano peppers, seeded, deveined, & minced 2 tbsp. garam masala 11β2 tsp. ground cumin 11β2 tsp. ground coriander 1 tsp. ground cardamom 6 oz. (170g) tomato paste 14 fl oz. (420ml) water 2 tsp. honey 8.5 oz. (240g) oat cream salt 1 lb. (450g) spaghetti fresh cilantro, for garnish What you need to do Place the chicken thighs into a large bowl. Add the Greek yogurt, garlic, ginger, and spices, and stir until the chicken is completely coated. Cover the bowl with a lid and transfer to the refrigerator to marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours. In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, melt the ghee over a medium-high heat. Add the onions, garlic, ginger, and serrano peppers and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft and beginning to brown on the edges. Reduce the heat to medium and stir in spices, cooking for 2-3 minutes until very fragrant. Stir in tomato paste and cook until dark red, a further 2-3 minutes. Whisk in the water, ensuring there are no clumps, then add honey. Take the pot off heat and stir in cream. Use an immersion blender, or carefully pour the sauce into a traditional blender, and blend the sauce until smooth. Return the sauce to the pot. Position an oven rack 5-6" from the broiler and heat the broiler. Line a baking sheet with foil and grease with cooking spray. Transfer the pieces of marinated chicken to the baking sheet, ensuring some yogurt remains on the chicken. Broil the chicken, flipping once halfway through, until cooked through and charred, 18-20 minutes. Transfer the chicken to a cutting board and let it cool a little, before roughly chopping and adding to the sauce. Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti to al dente according to package directions. Drain and set aside. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, add the cooked chicken and pasta. Toss everything together and continue cooking for 2-3 minutes until everything is warmed through. Garnish the pasta with cilantro before serving. Question of the Week What does "walking in purpose" look like to you?
